The News Media is NOT THE ENEMY of America!

Much has been said about our current presidential administration, and about President Trump stating that the news media is the "enemy of the American people". This is a very dangerous proposition, and one that is contrary to the founding principles of our country. In America, and historically throughout the world, a free press has been the bulwark of a democratic society.

To quote from the USA Today news article (one of many news outlets carrying the story) Trump again calls media 'enemy of the people':

William McRaven, the retired admiral who planned the 2011 raid that killed Osama bin Laden, said this week that Trump's attacks on the media may also be undermining democracy itself. “The president said the news media is the enemy of the American people,” McRaven, now chancellor of the University of Texas system, said in a speech. “This sentiment may be the greatest threat to democracy in my lifetime.” (emphasis mine).

We can see the truth of the value of the media by looking at what dictators do, and at what the media has done to help America stay democratic.

I found this website on the wikipedia page as a "Forum setup for those claiming unjustified censorship and banning by the Coloradoan" Isn't calling this an "anti-censorship activism network a complete oxymoron? The Coloradoan is an irresponsible newspaper in so many ways. I have been unfairly banned and censored. Ms Gustus, the executive editor, commited libel against me. They allow and condone bullying and derision toward me on their comment sections - in connection with CSU football and the new football stadium. They refuse to print the truth in finances about CSU football ($8 million plus loss per year and growing) and and the massive stadium debt - for a wrong headed, unneeded football stadium built in the student housing area - and loss of profit in Hughes stadium. They refuse to print LTEs that are supported by appropriate documentation. They write irresponsible editorials and are irresponsible in their political endorsements. The executive editor moved here from the sports desk in Reno, fired long time staff and hired mostly people new to the area. She asserted we should get to know her instead of her getting to know us and our town. The articles are mind numbingly vacuous and they ignore important issues. When Nobel prize winner Paul Krugman came to town to speak, they opted to cover Lavern Cox of OITNB instead. We deserve a better newspaper. let's see how long this stays up.
